Learn About the Past at the Holmes Medical Museum
Have you ever wished you could travel back in history and see how doctors treated patients, especially in the early 1800s? Holmes Medical Museum is the place to get the first-hand feel and experience of it.
What we now call a Museum was an actual hospital that served the people of Baldwin County in the early 1800s. Inside the Holmes Medical Museum, you have a pharmacy section, surgical ward, maternity rooms, equipment, and beds used at that time for patient care.
In the Private Room, which the Museum keepers now tag “Room of Quackery,” you will find old-looking medical instruments and equipment that the then “experts” used to treat people. Shockingly, the inscription in that room reveals that most people who attended patients with the kit didn’t go to any medical school.

As such, the equipment offered no real help, and in most cases, patients died. But before you think everything at Holmes Medical Museum breathes antique, check out their patient wards and drug section. It will amaze you that our progenitors had insight even at this early stage of medical development. There is a real human skeleton for your view, too, and attendants are very knowledgeable in answering questions. If you prefer other types of musuems,
