USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park

The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is a historical park for world war II. The park offers a tour of the USS Alabama and USS Drum submarine. On your visit to the park, you get to not only have a tour of these two monumental landmarks but also other artifacts on display. The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is located in a 100-acre park. The memorial park has no tour guides so you get to go on a self-tour. The park has a collection of notable battle aircraft and ships.

The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park had its first-ever oppression on the first of February 1940 at Norfolk Navy yard Portsmouth, Virginia. In 1943, the battleship was used in the ongoing world war II. The Battleship ship had quite an adventure during the II world war, it was known as the Heroine of the Pacific.’ After the war, the ship was sent to Mobile, Alabama as a Historic National Landmark. In 1962, all battleships were to be scrapped by government order. You can learn more about Mobile, Alabama here. Some forward-thinking Alabamians however had other plans for the “Heroine of the Pacific.” On 1965, January 9th their plan became a reality as the USS Alabama memorial park was officially opened. Today, the park is one of the landmark symbols in the state of Alabama.

Tours to the park could be booked ahead of time online. This is to avoid going all the way just to meet a fully booked and crowded park.

At the park, you get to see these memorable battle weapons first hand, climb the decks of the ships, handle historic guns, climb into gun turrets, experience what it means to be locked in a brig, get a flight experience from the flight simulator, etc. 

The experience is unlike anything you’ve seen or experienced before. You have about 2 hours to enjoy all of this historic and exciting adventure. Visitors are welcome to make use of the picnic area, buy souvenirs from the gift shop, fish from the pier, and even bird watch.
