Gulf State Park is a public recreation area on the Gulf of Mexico near the city of Gulf Shores in southern Baldwin County, Alabama. It is open to the public on weekends and holidays. In terms of land space, the state park’s 6,500 acres mostly consist of the area behind the Gulf Shores beach city, between Highway 59 and SH 161, with the west end of the park continuing farther south to a major beach area. In addition to beaches, the park contains wetlands, marshy tea-colored streams, pine trees, and three fresh-water lakes that are supplied by springs: Lake Shelby, Middle Lake, and Little Lake. The park is divided into three sections: Lake Shelby, Middle Lake, and Little Lake. In addition to park enforcement officers who provide round-the-clock security and enforce anti-littering legislation, the park is managed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
