Sea Sand Stars Science and Nature Center: Have Fun learning in Orange Beach

The Sea Sand Stars Science and Nature Center, located in Orange Beach, AL, is dedicated to the study and conservation of Alabama’s coastal ecosystems and wildlife. It is a place where visitors can come and learn about the natural world they live in, as well as actively participate in scientific discovery at their very own hands.

Sea Sand Stars offers interactive exhibits, activities and educational programs. The site is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 4pm, Saturdays from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 5pm. Admission prices are $5 per person for children 6 years old or older; $3 for seniors 65 years or older; Free admission for children 5 years or younger.

The Center was opened in 2005 under the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and Friends of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. FDSL has been involved with coastal Alabama since its founding in 1987. Sea Sand Stars is an example of a healthy estuary. Located on the west side of Alabama’s Dauphin Island, it is within the “inner” portion of Mobile Bay, which receives input from rivers, creeks and bayous across southern Alabama. The Center hosts numerous types of fishes, invertebrates, sea stars and other aquatic life.

It is ideal for visitors who want to learn about coastal Alabama in an interactive way. The exhibits are constantly being updated with the most up-to-date information on our region’s many facets of science and nature. Some examples include hands-on activities in archeology, biology, ecology, geology and physics.
